About my new book

My newest book- Icky Sticky Prickly Pine is ready just in time for Christmas 2015. This story shares the feelings of the pine tree as he grows through each of the four seasons. He wonders why the children pay little attention to him. He feels discouraged, lonely and jealous of the other trees in the yard, but continues to be proud of his own gifts. Until the end of the year in late December, something happens that makes him feel very special. A Christmas surprise indeed!

There's Hope

Posted on November 21, 2015 at 12:40 AM Comments comments (0)

*HOPE was re-adopted into her forever family July 11, 2015, but here's her story beginnings.

Our new addition to the family is settling in splendidly..

Meet HOPE

Diana's Grove Rescued her from a 'High Kill' shelter when she was just a 10 week old puppy. They gave her lots of LOVEand found her not one, but two new homes. She brought hope & joy to both families and is now settled in her forever home in St. Louis MO.

The week after Zog passed away while Rusty & i were heartbroken. Everywhere we looked in the house we saw remembrances of Zoggly Dog. (that was Okay with Mary, but it made Rusty feel really sad) So Rusty said, "Let's hop in the car and drive to Nashville to see the kids & Chandler." I agreed.

We asked FB Friends to help us name her

There's a story behind her name. Back when Zog was diagnosed with cancer so many of our friends wished her well. One good friend made Zog a pillow to rest his head on while he was going through chemotherapy; and the word she embroidered was to give me 'HOPE'

Well sadly, Zog passed away the day before the pillow arrived, but the message and the kindness and the softness of the little pillow gave me comfort. I held the pillow while I slept the

next few nights and when I started to pack away Zog's toys and blankets I looked at the word and thought if my next dog is a girl, I just might name her 'HOPE'

Rusty was pretty set on finding a boy pup, but fate had a different plan. So yesterday- the Saturday between Good Friday & Easter; along with the lunar eclipse of the full moon came a bundle HOPE in the form of sweet little 8 pound puppy.

We read every single name suggestion and we discussed them all, but none captured my heart more then the name 'HOPE'

And as for all the Easter ideas...you can look at it without the silent 'e'\

WE FOUND 'HOPE'

HOPE is so smart, just like Zog the Dog, she loves to learn new tricks. I am starting slow, so not to overwhelm her, but she looks up at me as though she is saying, "Teach me another trick, i'm ready to learn!"

So far she knows:

*Sit

*Shake

*Down

*Wait

*Come (only in the cabin), outside she's just like Zog...her nose takes over and she's on a sniffing mission.

This last one is so sweet:

*Ring Bell (to go outside) she stands up on her back legs and reaches the bell hanging on the front door knob. She gives it a swing with her little paw telling me it's time to go outside. Just adorable.

June 1, 2015 HOPE's updated trick list:

Sweet little HOPE is proving to be a very smart trick dog like Zog; she has learned:

*Sit

*Shake

*Down

*Wait

*Come

*Rings bell on door knob to go out

And she can:

*Put away her toys

*Bring me slippers

*Bring blanket if I say "I'm cold"

*Get me a tissue when I sneeze

Hope is learning many new tricks. We are developing a routine based around her taking care of her 'baby' .

Here's a picture of Hope as she's 'pushing baby'

Well, we have some news to share about HOPE. As it turns out, Rusty & Mary were only meant to 'foster' her until her forever family was ready to adopt her. Yes, HOPE not only has a brand new home; she has a brand new name.

Meet Sophie

SOPHIE

You see, the name 'HOPE' is within the name SOPHIE

And remember when her name was:

PORSCHE

It also contains the name

'HOPE'

PORSCHE

So no matter what her name is, this little puppy was meant to bring a message of HOPE to her new family who lost their son just 3 months ago

Aug.25, 2015- Zelda & Mary visited Sophie at her new home and met her new human parents. They LOVE her and she loves them. She is a very happy pampered pet in her new home. She did remember us and gave us lots of kisses. Zelda is twice her size now, but still Sophie dominated playtime. Once the boss always the boss... Love you little puppy, you take good care of those wonderful humans who are taking good care of you!

Plein Air 2015 at the Steelville Community Center

Here is a photo of my sale booth with the Steelville Arts Council Plein Air Event 2015. I painted outdoors 4 of the days and also included some of my studio work at the sale. To the left you can see the ladder used for my children's book shelf. It was a very successful showing. I may not have won any red, white or blue ribbon, but there were many customers who admired & purchased my art and my books.

Event #11 Art in the Park 2015

Posted on November 21, 2015 at 12:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Well, it's Springtime again and that means time to get back out there and participate in outdoor events. April 25th 2015 was the 2nd annual Art in the Park by Steelville Arts Council. I've been on the committee for AIP and this year was big fun because i could connect my new story to the event. Just a few months ago while i was cleaning out my closet i saw a bag on the top shelf labeled 'SOCKS' instantly a kid story came to me and i wrote 'The Sock Pocket Puppet'. As fate had it, the Arts Council planned a booth for kids to make their own sock puppets. My plan for the illustrations in my story would be actual photos of kids making and playing with sock puppets. So i designed a release form for the parents to sign and i began collecting photographs to use in my story. When the book is complete, each child that is pictured in the illustrations will receive a FREE copy of the children's book.

This will be a fun book and it will come complete with a sock so you too can make your own puppet :-)

This absolutely adorable little fellow is Landon, he will be featured as the main character in the story. Stay tuned for more pictures as the illustrations come together.

From ZOG to ZELDA

I guess you could say that Miss Zelda just kinda sorta fell into our lap

Our new little 'BIG' Princess

We believe Zog sent her to us,

Thanks Zogly Dog!

She'll do just fine and she reminds us a lot of you with that coon hound sweetness.

The very 1st time i took Zelda for a walk with the leash, she paused on Zog's grave. I thought she was stuck & when i looked back, there she was with this

plastic "olive branch" of sorts {from the plaque that a friend gave me for Zog}. She just sat there looking up at me as if she was trying to tell me something. I said, "Zog . . . are you in there?" I could almost hear him say, "Yes, but all i could get was this fat female body. . . but i'm back."

The very last words i whispered to Zog when he took his last breath and closed his eyes was, "Come Back!" Six months later Zelda showed up on our front porch and wouldn't leave.

Zelda reminds us a lot of Zog the Dog, the vet says she's a coon hound mix, that's what Zog was. She's not as quick at learning the tricks, but she is very loyal and stays close by me when i take her for walks. She's sweet & we LOVE her very much.

Event#6

I participated in a plein air art event through the Steelville Arts Council. It was BIG FUN meeting about 25 other artists and painting each day in a new location. On the final day we had an art sale; at which, i was able to feature my 3 books along with my paintings. I sold a few copies and was invited to a few schools for author visits & readings in the fall. I sold six paintings and even got a few orders. I enjoyed the week so much, it is still with me, like when you go on a vacation and the memories linger for days to come. I now see paintings in the countryside as i drive down the road. I really like the new perspective it gave me with how i look at the world around me.
